Mass Global Investment Co. (Mass Global), an independent power producer, has selected GE (NYSE: GE) steam turbine technology to increase the efficiency and the output of the 1,000 MW Erbil Power Plant in Iraq’s Kurdistan region.
GE will supply and install two GE C-7 steam turbines to help convert the plant from simple to combined-cycle operation, boosting output by 500 MW and increasing thermal efficiency to more than 48 percent. The plant already uses eight GE Frame 9E gas turbines.
GE will manufacture the steam turbines in Schenectady, N.Y. and will ship them during the second half of 2013. Turkey-based ENKA Construction & Industry Co., an engineering, procurement and construction company, will build the new combined-cycle power plant, which is expected to begin operation in mid-2014.
