Oil is the main source of earning for Iraq and it is the main reason of disputes in this country. Different ethnic groups have been competing over the control for oils for a long time now.
This dispute for the control of oil is indeed one of the main reasons between the clash between the Kurdish militia and the troops send by the government.
Kurdistan Regional Government wants to control about the oilfields that is within the territory of their autonomous reign and that region comprises of the provinces like Dahouk, Sulaimaniya and Arbil. According to the government of Iraq, oil is a natural resource and that is why it comes under the jurisdiction of the government.
The Higher Institute of Economic Reform is trying to bridge the gap between this two disputing sides and with that aim in mind, the institute is calling Iraqi academics, scientists and consultants for a conference for discussing the challenges the country is facing and are to face in the future.
A statement issued by the institute says that, oil as a wealth is a part of the national unity and signature of the country. That is why the conference will be focusing on the challenges faced by the oil industry and will provide a chance to the specialists to express their opinion in the same subject.
This conference is slated to be held by the end of September and will not be restricted for the specialists only. There will be politicians and representatives from the different parts and minority groups in the conference.
According to a statement issued by the institute, the main aim of the conference will providing and focusing on the idea about using this huge amount of natural resource for boosting the national unity, creating legislation of the exploitation and exploration of the oil fields, creating democratic institutions and the structuring of a new oil law and such issues in Iraq. The statistic shows that crude oil reserve in Iraq roughly measures up to more than 115 million barrels.
