An Iraqi Oil Ministry source said on Monday that Iraq has sold three million barrels of Kirkuk crude to three European companies in the first sale of its kind of crude oil since September last year.
The source said that each of the companies: the French Total, the Spanish Sipsa and the Italian E.R.G. got a million barrels to be shipped from the Turkish port of Ceyhan on the Mediterranean Sea before the end of January; however, the source declined to mention any details of the prices.
The source also said that Iraq has about four million barrels of crude stored in Ceyhan which receives intermittent exports from Kirkuk through a pipeline from Iraq's northern fields.
The subversive attacks have almost stopped the pipeline since the invasion of Iraq, which was led by the United States in March 2003. Iraq has been unable to pump enough oil to Ceyhan, allowing it to sell a shipment of Kirkuk oil since September.
