A pipeline to export gas to Jordan

A pipeline to export gas to Jordan
Translated by IRAQdirectory.com - [7/9/2007]
In a meeting organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Amman the Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Wealth, Khalid Al-Shireida, Sunday revealed Iraqi-Jordanian talks, which he described as serious, to extend a gas pipeline between the two countries.

Minister Al-Shireida said that while the security conditions obstruct import of Iraqi oil now, he hoped the situation would stabilize so it would become possible according to agreements that include preferential rates. He added that the ideal solution for securing his country's oil requirement is to restore the old export line between the two countries, because of their geographical proximity, but this is difficult in the near future.

Assim Jihad, Iraqi Oil Ministry spokesman, confirmed in an interview with "Radio Sawa" that Jordan had pledged to provide security protection, through one of the companies that accompany tankers from Iraqi territories, especially the western regions, and Iraq side is still awaiting the provision of these guarantees. Jihad said that the Iraqi Oil Ministry is ready to supply Jordan with quantities of crude oil, but the process was delayed due to failure to provide protection to tankers of crude oil to Jordan.
