Sources in the freight sector said on Monday that exports of crude oil declined in June from their highest levels of the year recorded in May due to the decrease of shipments from Basrah. According to figures prepared by Reuters, exports declined in June to 1.43 million barrels a day from 1.63 million barrels a day in May. The level of exports in May was the highest since September 2006. Iraq relies on the southern export outlet because of vulnerability to frequent acts of sabotage of shipments through the pipeline from its northern fields to the port of Ceyhan in Turkey. Iraq did not export any quantities from the north in June, although it bid last month for the sale of three million barrels of Kirkuk crude from the stockpile.
