The United States government has offered the Iraqi health ministry a grant of $800 dollars, which would be designated for the rehabilitation and construction of more than 180 health centers in Baghdad and the provinces, in addition to a number of health projects, medical equipments and medicines, according to a knowledgeable source in the ministry.
The source pointed out that as of April 9, 2003, a number of US companies have launched the rehabilitation of some health institutions, but they used to work without referral to the Health Ministry. He noted that some of the steps taken on behalf of these companies were wrong and neither citizens nor the ministry benefited from them.
On the other hand, the source noted that the WHO has launched the rehabilitation of 148 health centers, of which some have been accomplished. He added that the ministry has set a plan for constructing a great number of hospitals during the coming two years (19 hospitals), in addition to the execution of other health projects that would be executed in cooperation with a number of international and humanitarian organizations, such as the WHO.
