Etisalat company is planning to enter Iraqi market before the end of 2008

Etisalat Company declared on Thursday, that it plans to enter the Iraqi market before the end of this year.
Ahmed Julvar , the director of operations in the telecommunications company, clarified in talks ,that it acquires an operator with license covering a limited area in Iraq and that it plans to expand its services later to include across the country. He did not name the operator.
He stated to Reuters without giving further details, "Iraq has a lot of opportunities because of the lack of fixed telephone lines due to the war conditions."
In August 2007 , Etisalat decided not to offer for the mobile network license in Iraq.

Iraq sold later three license-for 3.75 billion dollars to Kuwait's Mobile Telecommunications Co. (Zain), a rival communications in the region and to the two AssiaCell and Korek. The three companies already operate networks in Iraq.

AssiaCell is subsidiary of Qatar Telecom (Qutel) is the only other communications in the region.
In December (Zain) agreed to pay 1.2 billion dollars to buy Orascom Telecom mobile phone Unit in Iraq. (Zain) has a network already in Iraq through MTC - Atheer.

Etisalat 's Main office in Abo Dhabi, had lost its monopoly at home in 2007 and is operating mobile phone networks in many countries including Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Egypt and several African countries.
