The Director of Water department in Dohuk governorate, Jalal Jamil, stated that the first phase of the "kharab Diem" project to provide water for the province, which depends on the level of water in Tigris River northwest of the city, is nearing completion.
He added: "the first phase completed approximately 80 percent of the project, which will supply the city of Dohuk with four thousand and 500 cubic meters per hour. We hope to complete the project during the coming months."
Jamil continued " the amount of $ 250 million dollars was allocated for two phases of the project, which will provide water to the city for the next 25 years, and we are preparing for the second phase:
"We started the second phase, and we are in the primitive steps of the survey and preparation of supplies and equipment, that will take a year and a half. The project will supply the city with 10 thousand and 600 cubic meters per hour."
Regarding the project of expanding water distribution network, the director of water department in Dohuk, clarified that 90 percent of the project is fully completed, and work is under way to modernize the old networks, in this regard, adding that 40 percent of the old networks were replaced with new ones, of 200 km long within the city.
