Iraq: Inflation index rises

The rate of inflation index rising during January has reached 5.8% in comparison with its rate during January 2005, according to the Iraqi Board of Central Counting and Information Technology.
A top official of Ministry of Planning and Development Cooperation said in a statement based on gathering data about the prices of goods and services consumed by costumers and through the prices of selling in Baghdad and other provinces.
He showed that the rising has come through the high increase of foodstuff with rate of 6.3%, tobacco and drinks 1.7%, clothes and fabrics 3.2%, fuel and lighting 13.5% transportation 8.7%, medicines and medical services 4.7%, rent 3.3%, and various services 2.3%.He has pointed that the annual index of inflation witnessed an increase with rate of 22.3% due to the increase in the number of all goods groups.
