The Ministers of Electricity and Energy of Turkey, Syria and Iran will discuss with the Iraqi Minister of Electricity Karim Wahid next Wednesday in Baghdad, the ways to enhance cooperation in the field of generation and transmission of electric power and the possibility of the power link.

The Ministry’s statement clarified that the Iraqi Electricity Minister said on Sunday that the four Ministers during the meeting in Baghdad next Thursday, will urge the possibility of linking their countries with electricity, which is part of a wider eight-linking project, as well as discussing the possibility of participating the Turkish, Iranian and Syrian companies in the implementation of projects in Iraq and to provide the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity with different equipment, which are being produced at the three neighboring countries.

He also noted that Iraq suffers from a severe shortage in the production of electric power where the highest production was reached 6000 MW constitutes less than half of its real need.

The government resorted to the application of programmed shutoff of electric power for homes and other facilities to meet the large deficit, while the citizens used to operate small home generators and renting more energy units from local electrical generators in their own neighborhoods to meet the shortfall in electricity supply, with the high temperatures and the demand for operating air conditioning.
