Scottish oil services company Wood Group stated that the company has secured a one year contract to work in the Iraqi oilfield Majnoon, which is located at the southern half of the country. The company further illustrated that it has secured the contracted from the Shell Company, which is working at the oil fields, near the port city of Basra.
From Aberdeen, headquarter of Wood Group, it has been reported that Majnoon is among the largest oil fields in the world, with an estimated 38 billion barrels of oil reserves. In this oilfield Shell is working as the operator in a partnership with the Government of Iraq.
To test new production facilities and equipment at the field, this one year contract has been announced. The company will focus on building pipelines and associated infrastructural developments.
Wood Group Middle East Director David Buchan said that on the start-up company will play a supporting role in favor of Shell. Political disputes and national security are the two giant problems which are stopping Iraq to reach at its projected landmark of development. However, Wood Group hopes that southern oilfields of Iraq will be more stable and the working experience of the company will be smooth. However, bombings over the pipelines are surely matters of deep concern for the company at this moment.
