Oil export has been hampered in Iraq due to bad weather

Due to the bad weather export of oil has been hampered in Iraq in past few days. It has been reported that the oil export from Iraqi province Basra has been slashed off by 864,000 barrels per day due to the bad weather. A shipping source remarked, "High winds in the Gulf are disrupting loading operations and preventing ships from leaving the port."
Exports from the Basra’s offshore terminal were hampered due to bad weather and technical problems as reported by the local media sources. The bulk of the country's crude exports flows through the southern ports on its small strip of the Gulf coast. Overall exports fell to 2.484 million barrels per day (bpd) in May from 2.62 million bpd in April due to a slowdown in Kirkuk oil shipments after repeated pipeline attacks and maintenance operations in the south.
From the southern oil hub of Iraq, the province of Basra, Iraq has shipped 2.198 million bpd, which was around 2.316 million bpd in April, means in the last month. Officials with Iraq's state-run South Oil Company (SOC) cited maintenance at some of the crude production facilities in the south as factor reducing exports.
On the other hand, oil pumping from the northern pipelines of Iraq, which carries oil from Kirkuk oilfield to the Mediterranean port of Ceyhan in Turkey has been again and again hampered due to bombing attacks over the pipelines. The attacks over the pipeline not only caused money loss but also caused delays and slow export. Iraq aims to double its oil output over the next three years and has a long-term goal of 12 million bpd. The Opec member is likely to manage around half that amount, industry experts say, due to infrastructure and logistical hurdles.
Overcoming such hurdles, some of them are manmade, while other are due to the poor natural condition, it is a challenge for Iraq to make its mark towards its goal.
