The New Zealand Defense Force stated that its troops have set up base in Iraq.
Defense Force Chief Lieutenant General Tim Keating said that the troops, which will be training Iraqi forces, are stationed at the Taji military complex, north of Baghdad.
Other officers are also stationed around Iraq, but the details of their position are not known. The contingent is preparing to train Iraqi troops in military skills, including basic weapons training, operations planning and medical and logistics support operations.
Keating also added that the training operation is for two years, with a review after nine months.
