Cement export to Iraq by Iran dropped by 20%

The secretary general of the Iran-Iraq Joint Chamber of Commerce, Jahanbakhsh Sanjabi said that Iran’s cement exports to Iraq have dropped by 20 percent.
Referring to the reasons behind the drop in cement exports to Iraq, he said that one of the main reasons was the insecure situation in Iraq. This issue has hampered the implementation of development projects in the country.
Meanwhile, a number of cement plants in Iraq have boosted supply of the product to the domestic market, he noted.
There is no specific strategy for exporting cement to Iraq, he said, adding that cement exports dropped by 20 percent in the past Iranian fiscal year, ended on March 20, and the drop is predicted to be further in the current year.
According to officials, Iran exported 18.942 million metric tons of cement and clinker in the past Iranian fiscal year, a one percent rise year on year.
Iran currently exports cement to 24 countries including: Iraq, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Pakistan, Qatar, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Georgia, Oman, India, and China.
Seven countries out of the mentioned 24 accounted for 97 percent of Iran's total cement exports. Iran produced over 61 million metric tons of cement and 64 million metric tons of clinker in the past fiscal year.
