Officials told Mawtani news agency that the construction on Ramadi's Olympic-sized stadium -- the first of its kind in capacity and design -- has passed its midpoint.

The stadium comes as part of Iraqi Ministry of Youth and Sports plans to expand the sports base in Anbar province. Nasser al-Dulaimi from the Anbar sports directorate told Mawtani 60% of the work on the project has been completed.

The 30,000 spectator stadium will include additional smaller fields, a course for track and field events, training halls, a closed dome, meeting halls, a library, parking areas and other service annexes, he said. He also added that it will also be equipped with the latest communications technologies, including satellite-based radio and television facilities for media coverage of games.

According to al-Dulaimi, nearly 80 room hotel will be constructed to welcome the sports teams, along with local and international delegations, visiting the Anbar province.

Addition of the Stadiums

A Turkish firm is building the 116 billion Iraqi dinar ($100 million) project over an area of 12 dunams in the al-Jazeera area of Albu Risha, northern Ramadi, said Mizher al-Mulla, chairman of the Anbar provincial council's investment committee.
The project is at the final stage and Mizher al-Mulla remarked, “The workers have begun installing the giant cover that will shade the entire stadium, except the football field, which will be open."

He further added, "We hope to complete the project within the next few months after adding a second work shift, and with stepped up support from Anbar directorates and offices, which are working very hard to extend the necessary services for the project."

The project's resident engineer, Abdullah Fenner, stated that 12 MW electric power stations will be developed, as an alternative to the national power grid to ensure energy supplies are uninterrupted -- is also planned.
He claimed, "Work is also continuing on a drinking water plant and another for water treatment near the Ramadi Olympic stadium, and on the extension of fiber-optic cables to ensure the speed of satellite transmission and communications both locally and internationally."
The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has accredited and recognized all the specifications and designs for the stadium as revealed by Fenner.
