Iraq and Belarus to bolster cooperation in education sector

Together Iraq and Belarus have outlined blueprint of plan of action to make their educational sector more robust and modernized. One of the agenda of discussion was training of Iraqi students in Belarusian universities. Recently, Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs Ibrahim Al Jaafari met with Belarusian Education Ministry Mikhail Zhuravlev to discuss the matter.
Over the years, Iraq students have shown great interests in technology and innovations, as opined by Mr. Ibrahim Al-Jaafari. He stated, "Iraq is interested in having its students trained in Belarusian universities in such important areas as machine-building, metallurgy, energy, transport, and in such medical areas as transplantology, oncology, cardiosurgery, and others."
Mikhail Zhuravlev said the there is an interest to enhance bilateral interaction both education and science - from training graduate students to joint research. The Belarus Education Ministry proposes to develop cooperation between Belarusian and Iraqi universities in the following areas: education programs in the English language, including distance learning programs, mutual internship programs for scientific and pedagogical workers, establishment of joint educational structures.
The inter-university communication will be done based on direct contracts. It is reported that around 261 Iraqi students enrolled in eight Belarusian educational establishments in the academic year of 2014-15.
