According to media reports, Iran and Iraq have signed a deal on exporting Iranian gas.
According to a statement, "Tehran and Bagdad have signed a deal on exporting Iranian gas to the southern Iraqi city of Basra."
It is reported that Iran will be delivering 25 million cubic meters of gas a day. The initial stage envisages gas daily supplies to Iraq at four million cubic meters. In the future, the contract envisions the hike in the daily gas export up to 35 million cubic meters.
In 2013, Iran and Iraq signed a deal over the exports of natural gas from South Pars energy hub to Baghdad. The project faced delay due to security concerns resulting from the Islamic State terrorist group dangerous activities in Iraq, as cited by Hamid-Reza Araghi, the managing director of the National Iranian Gas Company.
According to the agreement, Iran will deliver gas to Iraq’s Sadr, Baghdad and al-Mansouryah power plants through a 270-kilometer pipeline.
