Iraq’s oilfields to get flare gas recovery solution from GE’s Baker Hughes

A contract has been bagged by Baker Hughes from Iraqi government for developing advanced solutions for flare gas at the Nassiriya and Al Gharraf oilfields using its modular gas processing technology.

The project which will be carried out in two stages would need the GE company to deliver fast-track solutions to aid in flare gas recovery from the oilfields. As part of the initiative by Baker Hughes, an advanced modular gas processing (NGL) plant has been recommended to be installed for the Nassiriya oilfield in the first stage.

The NGL is expected to dehydrate and compress flare gas to generate gas of more than 100 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). Later on, the Nassiriya plant will be expanded into a complete natural gas liquid (NGL) facility says GE. It will help in the recovery of 200MMSCFD of dry gas, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and condensate.

Baker Hughes’s modular solution is also expected to help in providing dry gas for power plants for efficient power generation to help address the increasing demand for power using clean fuel. The project will also help Iraq in keeping a check on the amount of gas flared in the Nassiriya and Gharraf oilfields which are otherwise wasted.

Earlier this month, Baker Hughes had merged with GE’s oil and gas business to form a $32bn company with operations in more than 120 countries.
