On Wednesday a senior official of the oil industry in Iraq has revealed that the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries will arrange for a meeting of all its senior officials in October to select the new secretary general for the organization.
The same person has added further that a committee that has been set up by OPEC in June will meet in Vienna for three days, dating 22-24th October and they will select the new secretary general of the organization.
In the meeting, all the four candidates who have been selected by their governments will deliver a presentation each and the presentation will be about what they have been doing with the oil industry so far. After that, the committee will ask the candidates questions and enquire about their credentials. all this information is provided by the same Iraqi official.
Eventually the committee will submit its recommendation to OPEC in the next ministerial level meeting which is to be held in December and that time the new secretary general will get selected. This information is provided by the governor of Iraq OPEC Mr. Falah Alamri.
Saudi Arabia has selected its OPEC governor, Mr. Majid Munif for this position. The proposed name from Iraq is Thamer Ghadhban, who is the former oil minister and is currently the top energy advisor to the prime minister of the country. The nomination from Iran is its former oil minister Gholam-Hossain Nozari and Ecuador has selected Wilson Pastor, its current oil minister for the position.
Current secretary general of OPEC Mr. Abdalla Salem el-Badri is to retire during the end of this year.
