New plans to develop Um Qasir port in Basrah

The Director of Umm Qasr port in Basra, Talib Baish confirmed starting the implementation and completion of several projects to develop the structure of the port after the approval of the investment plan, pointing to the need for rehabilitation the docks, after a rise in the number of coming vessels to the port recently.
He noted that the port's department forwarded the draft to complete the establishment of two docks for "container" to another company, as the in charged company failed to execute the project which is supposed to eliminate the problem of staying some ships in water waiting for landing on the docks.
On the other hand, Baish said the foundation stone was laid for constructing 40 housed to the employees of the port.
He noted that the port of Umm Qasr's revenues had seen an increase due to the high number of ships moored at the docks as the result of improved security in Basra, adding that sometimes they are up to more than 100 ships.
And regarding the obstacles that might hinder the passengers to travel through the port, the director of Umm Qasr port in Basra, Talib Baish said these troubles have been resolved after the issuance of instructions from the Minister of Transport to improve services for travelers.
