Mendali border checkpoint to be reopened between Iran and Iran

An Iranian news agency reported that the Mendeli border crossing point between Iran and Iraq was reopened after over 30 years.
The Official delegations from the both sides opened the Sumar-Mendeli border crossing point, Azad Hamid Shafi, the head of Mendeli City Council said. Shafi said that reopening the border crossing point will boost the trade activity between Iran and Iraq.
However he noted that trade activity via the crossing point will be launched after completing some procedures by the both sides’ authorities.
Iraq is the second biggest importer of Iranian goods. The country imported $3.341 billion worth of goods from Tehran during the first seven months of current Iranian fiscal year (March 21 to October 22).
The year 2013 registered high levels of commercial exchange between Iraq and Iran, which reached — according to both Iraqi and Iranian officials — more than $12 billion.
