Minister of Transportation said that the work of Iraqi and Syrian Companies in terrestrial and air transportation is going to be upgraded in order to provide Iraqi markets requirements with Syrian goods and vice versa. The minister of Transportation singed with his Syrian counterpart during his visit to Damascus an agreement memorandum of activating the joint cooperation in field of transportation by sea, air, land, and railways. The memorandum dictated to facilitate transport of imported goods to Iraqi lands through Syrian harbors, activating Iraqi Company for Naval Navigation, mutual work to implement development programs and exchange expertise and technical studies in scope of harbors, and considering buying a ship to invest in transporting goods. The two sides agreed on submitting a joint terrestrial transport committee to implement suggestions from Iraqi Ministry of Transportation of transferring 50% of its share to Iraqi private sector and running 150 trucks of Ministry of Transportation in cooperation with Iraqi – Syrian Company for Terrestrial Transportation, confirming on developing roads which reach to boundary ways in Yaarobia, Rabiaa, Al-Bokamal, Al- Qaaim, and Al-Waleed. The minister declared that the Ministry staffs are working towards activating air passages, mutual organization in civil aviation field, modernizing communications systems to ensure safety of aviation movement and allowing airplanes to cross joint air and land in Iraqi and Syrian airports. The two sides presented in a meeting capabilities to implement the railway link between Deer Al-Zoor, Al-Bokamal, and Al-Qaaim reaching to Iraqi railway net and considering modernizing links to abbreviate the attachment between the Iraqi and Syrian harbors.
