The maiden flight to Cairo Airport by an Iraqi airline landed in the Egyptian capital Saturday.
Tigris Airways is to conduct three regular flights every week to Cairo, the head of Egypt's Civil Aviation, Samir Abdel-Maaboud, said.
He added that the Iraqi flights were launched because regular flights by Egypt Air and Iraq Airways were "halted several years ago." He added that the Egyptian Minister for Aviation, Ahmad Shafiq, had approved the three regular flights by the Iraqi private airline.
The approval followed close consultations between Egyptian and Iraqi civil aviation authorities.
More than 40 passengers of various nationalities were on board the maiden flight.
The air traffic between the two countries consisted of some charter trips.
