Deputy for the Kurdistan Alliance stated that there is a serious agenda the semi-autonomous regions has and that is voting of all political parties of the region to elect the new law for oil and gas of the region.
The new law is controversial and has been quite naturally criticized by Baghdad. Hassan Jihad, one of the Members of Parliament, stated that there were some attempts to hold meetings in order to create the oil and gas law for a vote. The Minister of natural resources and wealth in the Kurdistan Regional Government pointed out that after the voting process, it can be determined that the new legal framework is acceptable or not.
Baghdad has previously told the Kurdistan region that they consider those contracts that have been drafted without the consent of Baghdad with the foreign companies would be regarded as illegal or unconstitutional. Following this, the province has decreased its lenience over Baghdad and selling its oil independently through Turkey. Presently, trucks are carrying the oil and in future a pipeline between Kurdistan and Baghdad will serve this purpose.
MT Jihad has further stressed on the need for having a separate law as the region is acting in the oil sector with complete independence.
